Dr. Constantino Mpodozis

Short Bio

Constantino Mpodozis obtained a geology degree from the University of Chile in 1974 and a PhD from the University of Paris in 1977. From 1977 until 1981 he had a Profesorship at the Geology Department of the University of Chile. In 1981 he moved to the Chilean Geological Survey (Sernageomin), where he worked until 2000. From 1995 to 2000, at Sernageomin, he served the position of deputy Director for Geology. He was affiliated with ENAP-Sipetrol (Chilean Oil Exploration Company) in Santiago, Geólogo Senior, 2001-2007, and Geólogo Senior Antofagasta Minerals, 2007 -. His main fields of interest are the tectonics and regional geology and evolution of the Central and Southern Andes. Author and coauthor of ca. 200 papers and abstracts, he was a Guggengheim Fellow (1986) and, in 1994, obtained the Chilean National Geology Award ("Juan Brüggen Medal"). Between 1983 and 1986 he was Editor of the “Revista Geológica de Chile” (only ISI Earth Sciences magazine in spanish). He is also a member of the Scientific Comittee of the IGCP-UNESCO Program (1990-1995) and International Exchange Lecturer of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG, 2000-2001). In 2003 he was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Geological Society of America. Miembro correspondiente, Academia Chilena de Ciencias, from 2009.
